

Post the second leap the story shifts to Iccha's daughter Meethi ( Tina Datta ) and Tapasya's daughter Mukta ( Sreejita De ). Ichha is kind, caring and helpful, while Tapasya is spoilt, selfish and jealous. Uttaran follows two friends from different socio-economic backgrounds - Ichha Bharti ( Sparsh Khanchandani / Tina Datta), a maid-servant's daughter, and Tapasya Thakur ( Ishita Panchal / Rashami Desai), the child of a wealthy landlord. The series was remade in Tamil as Oviya on Colors Tamil and in Marathi as Asava Sundar Swapnancha Bangla on Colors Marathi. The series was dubbed into Tamil as Sindhu Bhairavi on Raj TV, in English as True Love on Glow TV and in Malayalam as Valsalyam on Surya TV. Another 18-year leap was introduced in 2012 and then the story centered around the life of Meethi, Mukta, Akash and Vishnu portrayed by Tina Datta, Sreejita De, Mrunal Jain and Ajay Chaudhary until its end. Sandhu was replaced by Vikas Bhalla in 2012. It later took a generation leap and from 2009 to 2012, it focused on the characters of Ichha, Tapasya, Veer and Vansh played by Tina Datta, Rashami Desai, Nandish Sandhu and Rohit Khurana.

The show initially starred Sparsh Khanchandani and Ishita Panchal as young Ichha and Tapasya in 2008 to 2009. It is the third longest-running Indian television series of Colors TV with 1,549 episodes.
